Ronda McKown receives United Way of Norman community service award

Ronda McKown receiving United Way of Norman Award.

December 20, 2023

Congratulations to our own Ronda McKown, who was awarded the 2023 Kathey Hopper Drummond Community Service Award at the United Way of Norman campaign celebration on Dec. 13. Board Chair, Tom Cooper of Vision Bank in Norman and this year’s Campaign Chair, Robyn Castleberry of Moore Norman Technology Center, presented the award to McKown.

The Kathey Hopper Drummond Community Service Award is presented by the United Way of Norman each year to a person who has demonstrated leadership, compassion, and dedication to making our community a better place.

McKown serves as Ideal’s director of outreach ministry and is actively involved in identifying community needs and enlisting the help of Ideal partners and team members to participate in various philanthropic projects. Giving back is an intentional choice and just a part of who we are at Ideal Homes & Neighborhoods; the company’s priority is to support the communities where we live and work throughout central Oklahoma. Since Ronda accepted her position at Ideal, she has certainly made a big impact through projects both large and small.

McKown has quite a reputation for getting things done. People who have worked on projects with her are amazed; she walks in with her list of what needs to be done and says, “We’re not going to just paint and do flower beds. We’re going to transform this place!” And that’s exactly what happens.

Here’s what United Way had to say about who she is and what she does:

  • Ronda exemplifies someone who wants to make this place a better place than she found it.
  • If there’s a project you need to have done the right way and in a timely manner, you call Ronda McKown!
  • Ronda shows up. She’s the first one there and the last one to leave. She puts her heart into any project and has a lot of passion for her work.
  • Our space is so incredible now.
  • She loves her community.
  • She takes on projects bigger than most people can handle and gets the job done.

Thank you, Ronda McKown, for your dedication, passion, innovation and just plain old hard work! You are amazing, and all of us at Ideal congratulate you on this prestigious, well-deserved award.

This is the second time a member from Ideal has received this honor. Gene McKown, who preceded Ronda as director of the company’s philanthropic outreach was recognized in 2017.
