Building a new custom home is a big deal and Ideal Homes & Neighborhoods has a team of designers to guide you through the selection process so your new home will reflect your style and personality. The Ideal Design Studio is the largest of its kind in Oklahoma with more than 80,000 design choices for your new home, which may seem daunting to some, but that’s why we’re here to help.

New customers begin working with Design Studio consultants very soon after signing a contract, sometimes as early as a week following.

Homebuyers come to the Design Studio after they’ve selected their homesite, floor plan and elevation (home style). From there, buyers will make decisions regarding all the finishes in the home. While a design consultant helps buyers navigating their way through selections, they help with guidance and recommendations if buyers want it. Some items buyers select at their Design Studio appointment include brick, paint colors, door style, light fixtures, cabinet designs, flooring, countertops, tile and more. Buyers will also review some detailed technical pieces, such as the electrical plan for their new home.

The first meeting with a Design Studio consultant will be a personalization meeting; which is about four hours long. Buyers work with their design consultant to review the floor plan, electrical plan (where lighting, outlets and switches are located) and plot plan (how the home is situated on the homesite). The second half of this time is spent selecting specific finishes, materials and colors for the home, starting with the exterior color scheme and working inside. After this first meeting, customers will receive preliminary pricing information and have time to review and make changes.

The final design meeting usually lasts a couple of hours. During this meeting, customers will review, finalize, and authorize their selections for their new home. The entire process from the personalization meeting to the final design meeting takes about two weeks.

According to Melody Richardson, Design Studio manager, it’s essential for customers to take some time before the personalization meeting to walk through other Ideal homes and to get a sense of their preferred design aesthetic. “Having a sense of direction before coming to the Design Studio helps make the most of their time with their design consultant,” Richardson added.

When customers leave the Design Studio after their final meeting, they will have all the options and materials selected for their home, and they will also walk away knowing the total, final investment for their home. “We have a great team of design consultants who are passionate about their customers and design,” continued Richardson. “Our team works together to create a home that homeowners will love for years to come,” she concluded.
