Oklahoma City August Events - Family Fun Before School Starts

If you are new to the Oklahoma City area, or even if you've lived here for a while, you may not know about all the events that happen around your new home in Oklahoma City. Before the kids head back to school take advantage of some of these family fun events. From Arts and culture, to music, movies, and other fun events, here's a synopsis of some of the things to do before the summer ends. Are you feeling a little Artsy? Take advantage of one of the many temporary exhibits before they are gone. America’s Road: The Journey of Route 66 is on exhibit at the Gaylord-Pickens Oklahoma Heritage Museum until August 30th. Take in the history and get lost in the fascination of one of the world’s most famous highways. Want something a little more exotic? Check out Faberge: Jeweler To The Tsars at the Oklahoma City Museum of Art up through September 28th. Revel in the intricate detail of more than 230 rare treasures created by the House of Faberge. Is Music Your Thing?Live on the Plaza - This reoccurs monthly on the 2nd Friday in the Plaza District, so don’t miss this Friday the 14th starting at 7pm at N.W. 16th St. Between N. Blackwelder Ave and N. Pennsylvania Ave. Enjoy featured artists, live music, special events and local shopping. Sunday Twilight Concert Series - Every Sunday evening through mid-September at 7:30pm in Myriad Botanical Gardens Great Lawn enjoy the summer twilight concert series presented by Devon. This is a free, family-friendly performance. August 16 features the music of the Rowland Bowling Band! (Blues). August 23 features Uncle Zep, 70’s Rock. August 30 features Porch Mice, Alt-country. Have You Seen Any Of The Movies in the Park? Don’t miss the last of the Sonic Summer Movies: Guardians of the Galaxy – Wednesday, August 19 at 8:30pm in Myriad Botanical Gardens Great Event Lawn and Band Shell. Another great free event for family fun to take in the last of the summer evenings before school starts back up. Interested in a little Yoga?OKC YOGAFEST - The second annual OKC YOGAFEST event takes place on Saturday August 15, from 9am-9pm at Coles Garden Event Center in Oklahoma City. This event brings together the area’s finest yoga instructors, conscious living presenter, healing arts practitioners, and health-oriented food establishments for an amazing day of health and well being. Cruise into History on a River Cruise History comes alive on the Oklahoma River Cruises. Take the whole family any Saturday up until August 23 to enjoy character reenactments of history aboard a river cruise. Take Me out to The Ball Game Check out the OKC Dodgers at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark. Games are fun for the whole family. Check out the game schedules here.Watch Shootout Barrel Racing August 13-16 Come out for the 17th Annual Summer ShootOut at State Fair Park Coliseum. Bring the whole family out to see the barrel racers compete.
