United Way of Norman
April 29, 2020
This is part 3 of our continuing series profiling organizations that Ideal and its employee family have a history of supporting. The coronavirus pandemic has made it harder than ever before for these wonderful non-profits to serve the individuals that rely on them. If you are in a position to help, please know these organizations greatly need and deserve your assistance.Mission It is the stated mission of United Way of Norman to strengthen the community by empowering people to change lives. This fiscal year, the organization is funding 40 programs at 26 organizations in the Norman area, all of which fall into four impact areas: Education, Financial Stability, Health and Independence. Through these efforts they serve more than 54,400 people each year. Response to COVID-19 Due to unprecedented unemployment figures and resulting widespread financial stress resulting from the COVID -19 pandemic, United Way of Norman is partnering with Food & Shelter —another non-profit long supported by Ideal Homes — to provide financial help for people who are struggling to pay their rent and utility bills. United Way of Norman is providing this assistance through its COVID-19 Response and Recovery Fund. To apply for assistance from this fund you need to present a payroll stub dated before March 13, 2020, to show your need is directly related to the pandemic and complete a short form. All resulting payments are made directly to landlords and utility companies. Screening and intake for the Response and Recovery Fund are handled by Food and Shelter, Monday through Friday from 1-4 pm. Three staff members are dedicated to Response and Recovery screening and Intake during this time. All intake efforts are handled by phone only. No walk-ins are allowed. Please advise anyone you know living in the Norman area in need of this assistance to call Food & Shelter at 405.360.4954.
