Western Avenue Offers Eclectic Mix
April 17, 2019
Everything from inexpensive to ritzy and antique to contemporary can be found in the Western Avenue district of Oklahoma City. A truly eclectic mix of retail shops, boutiques, antique and furniture stores, fine art galleries, local restaurants, bars, businesses and service providers await visitors to this district, which extends from N.W. 36th Street to Wilshire Blvd. on Western.
Vibrant murals are among the many things that enliven this area. Created over a two-year period, eight murals, all of varying mediums and styles, were created by over 15 local artists, many of whom had never collaborated together before.
But perhaps the most recognizable landmark in the area is the Will Rogers Theater Event Center. Originally, a single-screen movie theatre that opened in 1945 (the original sign is still in place), Will Rogers has been transformed into an environment where up to 300 people can be seated for everything from banquets to weddings, receptions, private parties, reunions and business events. In addition to a large dance floor and an elevated stage, this facility has plenty of parking behind the building. Its Lobby Café and Bar , a favorite among wine and food enthusiasts, boasts a deco wood wine bar and a mural that depicts the life of Will Rogers.
Across 43rd Street, due north of Will Rogers, the Savory Spice Shop offers super fresh herbs, spices, extracts, and spice blends for the dedicated cook and barbecue artist.
At Musashi’s Japanese Restaurant, named after legendary samurai swordsman Miyamoto Musashi, teppanyaki chefs entertain diners as they prepare their lunch or dinner right before their eyes. Sushi Neko has fresh fish flown in five times a week and is open for both lunch and dinner as well.
Open seven days a week, Antique Avenue hosts more than 20 dealers whose offerings include collectibles, jewelry, Oklahoma memorabilia, glassware, furniture and art, as well as indoor and outdoor décor.
New and old vinyl albums are available for the discerning listener at Guestroom Records. Billed as a lunch shop that also offers delivery and catering, The Sandwich Club is owned and operated by two ex-techies who met while working in Silicon Valley. Offering “Fine Fowl and Fixins” the Drum Room is open seven days a week.
A beloved Oklahoma City eatery for over 28 years, Metro Wine Bar and Bistro won the Open Table 2018 Diners Choice Award and is a Wine Spectator award winner as well. Although constantly evolving and changing, the Metro maintains world-class food and service, along with a focus on fine wines.
One of OKC’s great bars, the Cock O the Walk Bar and Grill is open seven days a week. Bin 73 offers an assortment of wines and cocktails, with small plates and sandwiches for food.
A wide range of experiences and cost points await you and your family and friends in Oklahoma City’s Western Avenue District.
