2nd Friday Norman Art Walk Held Throughout Year

July 12, 2019

The Norman Arts Council holds a free art walk on the second Friday of every month throughout the year. Aptly named 2nd Friday Norman Art Walk, this is always a multi-stop event, with participants including such organizations as Visit Norman, the Firehouse, MAINSITE, the Norman Public Library, and Depot Gallery, as well as a wide variety of shops, restaurants, offices, bars, concert venues and more. This monthly celebration of the arts in Norman connects the downtown arts district with outlying galleries, performance halls and Campus Corner. 2nd Friday offers the opportunity not only to see great art, like sculpture, painting and photography, but to experience performance art as well. There’s also music throughout the affair from the Norman Music Festival and the Norman Arts Council, as well as local establishments like Red Brick Bar, The Bluebonnet and Michelangelo’s.  Concerts of basically all types of music—everything from jazz to indie to hip-hop to rock—are held in all types of settings. The event takes place 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., but you won’t need to rush dinner before arriving. On Peters Street, between Main and Grey, numerous food trucks offering a variety of culinary delights are always on hand. Although there’s no charge to enter any participating venue, you’ll probably want to bring your wallet along anyway. After all, there will be lots of handcrafted items available for purchase, plus all kinds of tempting food truck treats just begging to be sampled. Any business or organization within the footprint of the 2nd Friday Norman Art Walk is welcome to participate in the festivities. There’s no charge to have a participating artist, performance or concert included in Second Friday’s promo material. Go here to learn how your organization can participate. Vendors and street performers are announced the week of the walk. Click here to learn more about what is happening at this month's art walk.
