Situated at the crossroads of the nation, the intersection of I-35 and I-40, Oklahoma City’s
Boathouse District is easily accessible to visitors and locals alike.
Established in 2006 when the
Chesapeake Boathouse opened on the Oklahoma River, the Boathouse District has become an official U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Training Site for rowing and canoe/kayak. This location also hosts numerous regattas throughout the year and is well-known as a place where the whole family can have a lot of outdoor fun.
Even those who prefer to stay on land can enjoy themselves here on the district’s more than 13 miles of paved trails for running, walking or cycling, along with obstacle courses.
Those who come to the district for water activities don’t have to know what they’re doing before they arrive to join in the good times. Everyone can take quick lessons on the dock before entering the Oklahoma River on a kayak, canoe, dragon boat, stand-up paddle board and more.
A state-of-the-art whitewater rafting and kayaking facility,
Riversport Rapids and Adventures is one of only three man-made whitewater sites in the nation. It offers six levels of challenges. The higher those challenges go, the harder they get. At the top there’s America’s tallest dry slide, the 72-foot
Sky Slide, as well the free falling
Rumble Drop.
Riversport’s Sky Trail has a 700-foot zip line which participants can take across the Oklahoma River and back. Riversport also provides whitewater rafting, kayaking and other water activities. It even has special child-sized attractions.
In addition to its many entertaining activities the Boathouse District also offers amazing artwork, like the huge bronze
Oklahoma Land Run Monument, which is set in a park with walking paths and ponds. The
Compass Rose sculpture, created by internationally acclaimed artist Owen Morrell, stands at the entrance to the district.
Also known for its stunning architecture, this district is home to such iconic structures as the
Devon Boathouse,
Chesapeake Finish Line Tower and
CHK|Central Boathouse, where art meets the river with its live music venue and art gallery.
