As you celebrate this holiday season by adding festive decorations to your home, make sure that safety is part of your Christmas to-do list. Water your Christmas tree frequently. Dry trees are a fire hazard. Place your tree in a sturdy stand with plenty of water. Test your smoke alarms. With extra fire dangers this season, it's a great time to test your alarms. It's an easy-to-do job that can save lives. Check your electrical cords. Make sure your Christmas lights and extension cords don't have frayed wires. Also, never connect too many light strands together. Be aware of fire dangers. Position your Christmas tree away from the fireplace and other heat sources, and never hang stockings near the fireplace when it's in use. Use candles with care. A scented candle can add a wonderful holiday scent to your home, but never leave candles unattended. Candle-related fires are one of the most common holiday home hazards.
