Oklahoma City: Enjoy Your Favorite Hobbies

Residents of Oklahoma City have many potential hobbies at their disposal. Whether a pastime they’ve enjoyed for decades or an activity that has struck their fancy and about which they’d like to learn more, a host of hobbies is available to the people who live in and around OKC. PHOTOGRAPHY Classes in photography are available at a variety of career technology schools, like Francis Tuttle and Metro Tech, as well as in private facilities. In addition, there are a number of spots where photography equipment can be purchased or serviced. Plus, OKC is home to several clubs and associations for those who enjoy the pursuit of photography. DRONES There are a variety of places where drones can be purchased in Oklahoma City. Instruction in their operation is also available through career technology schools in the metro area, including classes in drone photography and videography, as well as workshops on editing the same. There is also a club for drone operators. DRAWING, PAINTING and SCULPTURE Adults and children alike have a number of options available to them to practice and learn about various artistic mediums. There are many art supply stores in OKC. Also, organizations like the Oklahoma Visual Arts Coalition and the Individual Artists of Oklahoma, provide opportunities for artists to join together to practice, display and learn more about their endeavors. WRITING Oklahoma City Writers Inc. has members experienced in all genres. Some are published, others are getting published, and there are those who are completely new to the pursuit. Each month, this organization invites speakers on different aspects of writing—getting published, marketing, submitting to agents, and the new world of publishing technology. There are many organizations that offer writing classes, workshops and meet-ups ASTRONOMY The Kirkpatrick Planetarium in Science Museum Oklahoma has recently been updated and now offers a state-of-the-art planetarium experience where no two live shows are exactly the same. The OKC Astronomy Club offers educational opportunities to the public in the sciences and academics, plus chances for its members to contribute valuable scientific research and data to the professional astronomical community. The club also offers its less-experienced members opportunities to learn and grow. BIRD WATCHING Multiple locations that offer excellent bird-watching conditions abound in Oklahoma City. The Oklahoma City Audubon Society , which is neither a chapter of, nor affiliated with, the National Audubon Society, hosts a number of bird-watching events in addition to holding monthly meetings from September through June of each year. OTHER PURSUITS This blog has barely scratched the surface of all the hobbies that are not only able to be but also currently being pursued in OKC. Geocaching, archery, shooting, cooking, scrapbooking, crafting, and many, many other interests are all available and being enjoyed in OKC.
