Tailgating in Norman: A New Era as OU Joins the SEC

July 17, 2024

The air in Norman is electric as the University of Oklahoma (OU) gears up for its inaugural season in the Southeastern Conference (SEC). This move is more than just a change in conference; it’s an invitation to an even richer game day experience, complete with expanded tailgating options that promise to make 2024 an unforgettable year for Sooner fans.

Expanding the Tailgating Experience

OU has significantly increased the space available for tailgating this season, opening up several new areas on campus to accommodate the influx of fans. Among the new locations is Boyd Lawn which stands out as a prime spot. Situated at the front door of the university on Boyd Street, Boyd Lawn offers convenient access to Campus Corner (shopping, food and drinks!) and the Oklahoma Memorial Union (food and drinks – and restrooms!). This prime location provides fans with easy access to restrooms, dining options, lounges, and air conditioning, ensuring a comfortable and enjoyable tailgating experience.

Don’t want to set up your own tailgate? Join Boomer Bash, hosted by the OU Alumni Association, or let REVELxp set up a tailgate for you. Boomer Bash is hosted on the Wagner Hall lawn just steps away from the Gaylord Family Oklahoma Memorial Stadium. Tickets are $35 per game and include food, sodas, and alcohol. Purchase tickets to Boomer Bash here.

For the ultimate level of luxury, let REVELxp set up a prime tailgate experience for you and your friends. This full-service tailgating experience allows you to select the level of setup desired (tent, tables, cooler, TV, etc.) and then all you have to do is show up! REVELxp will set up and clean up your tailgate located right next to the Gaylord Family Oklahoma Memorial Stadium.

Welcoming the SEC Fans

One of the most exciting aspects of this season is the influx of visiting fans from other SEC schools. While it’s challenging to predict exactly how many will join the tailgating festivities, OU is prepared for a significant turnout. Other SEC universities have noted that their fans are known for traveling well, and OU is ready to welcome them with open arms. This mix of home and visiting fans will only add to the vibrant and lively atmosphere on game days.

A Season of Unrivaled Spirit

“Game day in Norman has always united generations of Sooners, and as we gear up for our first football season in the SEC, we’re excited to make enhancements that will take the OU tailgating scene to the next level. With more fans than ever expected to join us this year, the energy and passion of the OU Family will make this season unforgettable, showcasing the unrivaled spirit of Sooner Magic as we enter this thrilling new chapter in the SEC,” said Joseph Harroz Jr., President of the University of Oklahoma.
