REMEMBER THE ALAMO – AND SAN ANTONIO – IF YOU’RE LOOKING FOR A FALL ROAD TRIP
November 17, 2020
Fall is a perfect time for families to take a road trip together. After all, the temperature isn’t too hot to enjoy getting outside and, although cool, it’s usually not uncomfortable. Fall is a great time to visit the vibrant city of San Antonio, especially if you’re planning to spend the majority of your time outdoors, as the summers can be downright sweltering. At about 467 miles south of Oklahoma City, San Antonio is typically a little more than a 6-hour drive from most Ideal Homes and Neighborhoods.
Tours
A fun and a-typical way to see the city is the San Antonio Walking Ghost Tour. This 90-minute, one-mile, professionally-guided excursion begins at the most haunted spot in town, the Alamo. It continues along the Riverwalk to downtown. Participants of all ages are welcome, and each is provided with “ghost hunting” equipment. Comfortable clothes are recommended, as are cameras. Not to worry, however, if riding is more your style. The King William Carriage Tour lets you sit back and enjoy a one-hour tour of the most historic and beautiful homes in the city.
Although perfect for a fun family history tour, this excursion is also particularly nice for those looking for a romantic experience, especially when taken at night. For the more adventurous, try the San Antonio Alamo Helicopter Tour. This aerial view of the city will give you an entirely different glimpse of the zoos, botanical gardens, rivers and other exciting spots than what you would gain from any other perspective. An added advantage: November isn’t the high season in San Antonio, so November is a more cost-effective time to take this tour than the summer months.
See Sea Creatures
If your children enjoy animals, especially those from the sea, then you’ll definitely want to visit Sea World San Antonio. This venue includes thrilling rides, a slew of adventures and the chance to have a variety of enchanting encounters with some of the world’s most fascinating creatures. You and your children can interact with a wide range of sea animals. Sea creatures are also on offer at the San Antonio Aquarium. Appropriate for individuals of all ages, a visit to the aquarium usually takes two to three hours to explore all that is available.
The Aquarium is handicap accessible and includes a gift shop, interactive displays, exhibits and daily shows. Visitors can pet stingrays in the touch tank and visit the Aviary Experience where they’ll have the option of feeding the birds. Other exhibits include the Giant Pacific Octopus and the Rain Forest and Desert Experience. A list of events and things to do in San Antonio can be found HERE.
